Ernest and Helen Watson album, 1925-1926.

The Ernest and Helen Watson Album consists of 2 black-and-white pieced panoramic photographs (one of the village on Saint Paul Island, Alaska, and one probably of the same village); an album containing 5 black-and-white photographs of sea mammals; and an album containing 217 black-and-white photographs, mostly of the wildlife, people (some identified), buildings, and daily activities on Saint Paul Island, Alaska, taken when the Watsons were stationed on Saint Paul as teachers. Other subjects of photographs in the larger album include coastal towns at which the vessel carrying the Watsons stopped en route to or from Saint Paul, and scenery along the route (Aleutian Islands, the Inside Passage). A number of the photographs of towns and scenery were not taken by the Watsons, but are the work of professional photographer J. E. Thwaites and date to the 1910s. The collection also includes a small amount of biographical and genealogical information on Ernest and Helen (Arnold) Watson and an article concerning the Pribilof Islands fur seal hunt, clipped from National Geographic, vol. 101, no. 4 (April 1952).
